PCDC - Pflugerville
Economic development does its best work quietly. We built the channel that lets a community see it happening.
Who we work with
The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation is the economic development arm of one of the fastest-growing communities in the Austin metro. It recruits employers, supports local business, and invests in the things that make people want to stay.
The challenge
A wide remit, a small team, and a category of work that is genuinely hard to explain quickly.
Economic development resists the elevator pitch. PCDC runs business recruitment, small business support, downtown investment, workforce programs, and community events, and the results show up as a new employer or a busier Main Street rather than as anything with a logo on it. The work gets felt before it gets recognized.
PCDC was already publishing plenty. Board packets, press releases, a website, a real presence at community events. That material is built to inform, and it does. Video is a different job, and nobody had been asked to do it yet.
Then there is the constraint every public agency has. A small team, a full calendar, and no appetite for standing up a production department.
What we did
Three moves, built so PCDC's team could keep running them.
Answered the question people actually ask
The pilot episode was not a highlight reel. It put the plainest possible question to the executive director and let him answer it in his own words. Everything else builds on that.
Built a format, not a video
Set design, a repeatable interview structure, an intro, a thumbnail style, and a brand kit. We coached the staff through hosting so episodes do not depend on us being in the room.
Filmed where the community already was
Festivals, forums, and the Capitol. Instead of asking residents to come to PCDC's channels, we captured them where they already gathered and let them do the talking.
The work
The pilot episode, published on PCDC's own channel. This is the thing they now point people to.

Cut for social
The same material, cut vertical for the feeds where Pflugerville actually is. Episodes become clips, and events become interviews with the people who showed up.

The outcome
PCDC now has an answer to give. When someone asks what the organization does, there is something to send them, and it sounds like the director rather than a brochure.
They publish it themselves. The episode went up on PCDC's own YouTube channel under their own branding, which is the version of this that matters. The work did not stay in a shared drive.
The relationship grew one booking at a time. A community festival, then the podcast pilot, then another event, then the Texas Capitol, where PCDC brought us in to cover their panel at the Texas Venture Gala and Forum. Every one of those was a separate decision by an organization that has to justify what it spends.
Then the work moved past production. We support the posting side too, which means captions, scheduling, and cadence rather than a folder handed back at the end of a shoot. A public organization answers for everything published under its name, so that is not a small thing to bring a vendor into.
What PCDC has now is not a folder of videos. It is a format, with a set, a brand kit, templates, a staff coached to run it, and support getting it out the door.
